Does the apple with the name "Juici" live up to it's name? Or is this just marketing at work?
Another apple variety has been released on the market, and this was does NOT have the word "crisp" in it's name.
Instead this apple focused on another aspect that people like in their apples - juicy. In fact it focused it on that attribute so much that it's the apples name, with the last letter changed to make it more fun.
I have seen Juici apples around the last couple winters, but haven't gotten around to writing about them on the blog. Until today.
What is a Juici Apple?
As like the new Cosmic Crisp apple and the Sugar Bee apple, the Juici apple is yet another Honeycrisp cross - here we go again 🙂
This time it's a combination of a Honeycrisp and a Braeburn. Juici is being grown by Oneonta Starr Ranch Growers in Wenatchee, Washington. They are responsible for the Koru apple as well.
Growers like some of the attributes of Honeycrisp and dislike others. So there has been a search to replace Honeycrisp. No clear winner yet, but every major apple producer is sending out their new Honeycrisp offspring, hoping theirs is successful.
Is it Really Juicy?
Yes, the apple does indeed live up to it's name. My expectations were higher when I gave this fruit a try and I was surprised of how juicy it really is. The juice was oozing out of the apple after the first bite.
I do believe Juici is the juiciest apple I have ever tried.
Overall Experience
On a scale of 1-10, here is how I rate this apple:

I had my wife try both Juici and Sugar Bee at the same time. She decided to finish the Juici apple.
On the other hand, I picked the Sugar Bee apple as I prefer it's flavor. Juici is slightly above average in flavor. There are definitely better tasting apples out there. As compared to eating a Honeycrisp, I prefer the juiciness of Juici and that is stores better than Honeycrisp.
Can You Bake with Juici Apples?
I have yet to try it, but with it's parents being a Braeburn and Honeycrisp (read more about Honeycrisp as a baking apple), I imagine this is a good baking apple.
When in Season?
You can find Juici apples in stores from November to March. I found them in greatest supply during the month of February in 2020, in which they were still eating well - very crispy and juicy.

I came across some Juici apples at our local Walmart. I wish I would have bought more! We loved the flavor and the texture of these apples. I'm hoping they still have some when I go shopping this week

I just tried my first Juici apple today. I love it! I would rate it an 8 of 10. I only discovered the Cosmic Crisp a couple of months ago and I still think the Cosmic is my favorite new apple. Interestingly, here in Rhode Island and MA, the price for a Cosmic apple ranges from a high of $3.99/lb to $1.99/lb. (I did not pay attention to the cost of the Juici.)

I live in Eastern Washington, so admittedly I have a love affair with apples. I'm ashamed to say Just how high my Apple budget has gone, But it's safe to say I am approaching the $100.00 a month mark by feasting on these new breeds. The Cosmic Crisp has been my go 2 favorite, bought at Winco, But today I bought the Juici. and both are soo Good! I really cant decide which one I like better. These two breeds are the foods of Gods.
I would like to add that all too often we are stuck with small child sized apples here at home. Even the old standby Red delicious was looking pathetically small in their box. I'm not sure why exactly Maybe its because the larger ones are saved for export. But to find these softball sized gems in our stores is a real treat. Apples are the pride of our State and we should be enjoying the best of the crop right here at home.Diane E Dyer
I bought these at Costco yesterday. They were giving out samples. They are super delicious ! Having one for breakfast now !

Discovered these at Winco a month ago and tried a few because the price was terrific. Have returned for more and thinking of looking for a tree to plant. So sweet, crisp, and they don’t lose their crunch the way other varieties seem to do.

Juici apples can also be found at Woodmans stores in Illinois and Wisconsin.
