Durham celebrates Mardi Gras in a big way. The main event is always on Fat Tuesday, which is February 13, 2024. It will be free.

The three places you can expect updates are the Bulltown Stutters’ Facebook page, Durham Mardi Gras’ Facebook page, and League of the Tutu’s Facebook page.

In addition, there is a family-friendly event the Sunday before Fat Tuesday, at Durham Central Park. Read on for details about events on both dates.

The Bulltown Strutters, the Cajammers and The Glass Jug Beer Lab invite everyone to celebrate Mardi Gras at Durham Central Park, 501 Foster Street, Durham, North Carolina, on Sunday, February 11, 2024, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

This is a free, family-friendly event. Come as you are, or pick a theme and come dressed up. Come on your own, with friends or family, or even form a Krewe.

At the event:

Free crafting booth: make shoe box floats
Free crafting booth: make a costume.
Live music and dancing
Second line parades every hour
Glass Jug Beer tent
Food trucks

Noon – Event begins, crafting booths open
1:00 short Second Line parade of Shoebox Floats, led by Bulltown Strutters brass band
1:10 Bulltown Strutters play on stage
2:00 big Second Line parade of Krewes and Shoebox Floats
2:30 Bulltown Strutters end
3:00 short Second Line parade of Shoebox Floats
3:15 Cajammers – Cajun dances & waltzes

Durham Mardi Gras

The main event is on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.

The Durham Mardi Gras Parade is a DIY affair. You don’t have to register your krewe. Just show up. There is no officially organized parade, but…it will happen.

Bulltown Strutters have announced their schedule on bulltownstrutters.org/mardi-gras.

5:30pm Meet in your festive attire at the Bull, CCB Plaza, 201 Corcoran Street, Durham
6:00 All musicians are welcome for a jam led by the Bulltown Strutters
6:30 Sidewalk Parade from CCB Plaza to Geer Street
7:00 Cajammers play to 8:15 at Blue Note Grill, 709 Washington Street, Durham
8:00 Bulltown Strutters perform at Motorco, 723 Rigsbee Avenue, Durham
8:00 New Orleans native Rhonda Robichaux & Meaux at The Pinhook 117 W Main St, Durham
8:40 to 10pm Mel Melton and the Wicked Mojos perform at Blue Note Grill, 709 Washington Street
9:30pm Boom Unit Brass Band at The Pinhook 117 W Main St, Durham, NC
