Baldur’s Gate 3: Crèche Y’llek Guide

Crèche Y’llek is an intriguing location that isn't easy to reach BG3. Here's how to get around it.

When the player gets into the Crèche Y’llek and infiltrates it deeper, they will eventually come face to face with Vlaakith, who is not fond of the player’s guardian and will order you to kill them. Making the right choices here will impact the player’s relationship with their own guardian, as well as possibly Lae’zel.

Who are Vlaakith and The Guardian?

The guardian is a character the player should be wholly familiar with by this point. It’s the second character the player is asked to design at the beginning of the game and will provide some help along the way, as well as some guidance.

The Deathless Queen, Vlaakith, on the other hand, will probably be encountered for the first time here. She’s the Immortal Queen of the Githyanki. She’s a powerful deity who lost the artifact and is actively seeking it back. Interestingly, Githyanki clerics have the option to choose her as their patron deity, something unique to their race.

Where to Find Vlaakith

To find Vlaakith, the player must, of course, first make their way into the Crèche Y’llek. To even reach there, the player will have to enter it from the Rosymorn Monastery. Once inside the Crèche, they’ll have to head to the Captain’s Quarters and find a way past that before entering the Inquisitor’s Chamber. After dealing with Ch’r’ai W’wargaz there, she will appear to the player as a projection.

Vlaakith’s Orders

Vlaakith will immediately know that the player has the artifact in their possession. However, she claims that the Astral Prism is corrupted. Based on what she says, it is because someone is inside of it who is broken. As such, she will ask the player to enter the Astral Prism and kill them. If the player manages to do that, she promises Lae’zel ascension.

She warns the player about the guardian lying to them. Now all the player has to do is enter the Astral Prism.

Sparring the Guardian

Once inside the Astral plane, the player will able to jump from very far distances without sustaining any damage. The player will have to jump over and there they will see the Beckoning Cave. They can only enter that cave alone.

Upon entering it, the player will meet with their guardian who had warned them to stay away from the Githyanki.

Here, the player will have the option to speak with their guardian and discover the dirty secrets hidden by Vlaakith. This secret could end Vlaakith’s rule and that is why she wants the guardian dead.

The player will fully discover this secret if they decide to spare their guardian, by refusing to harm them when their guardian draws out their sword.

Vlaakith’s secret is that she doesn't know how the Gith destroyed the Mind Flayer empire. This means that if the empire were to return, she would have no idea about how to stop them. Since the guardian is protecting the player from Illithid Mind Control, this means they have the secret to resisting this, and Vlaakith hopes to extract this knowledge from the Guardian’s corpse.

With that, the player will emerge out of the cave and face Lae’zel. Lae’zel will want to enter the player’s mind to confirm whatever the player said happened in there. The player should just be honest with her and then let her inside their head.

Consequently, the player has to leave this place and head outside.

Obeying Vlaakith

The player might believe Vlaakith when she says that the guardian is lying to them. If the player has doubts about their guardian, they could very well just follow Vlaakith’s order and try to eliminate them.

Upon entering the astral plane, the player has to yet again enter the Beckoning Cave alone. There, they will find their guardian.

Upon entering, the player might feel the lack of trust between them and their guardian. The player can choose to speak with their guardian before or just go straight to telling them they’re here to kill them.

Baldur's Gate 3: How To Beat Malus Thorm

Here's how the player can take down Malus Thorm in BG3.

The guardian will draw their sword and give the player the option to stab them or back down. The player should choose the option to stab her. The player’s face will turn evil for a second before pointing the sword at the guardian and stabbing them. The guardian will say that they really thought the player wouldn’t betray them like this.

The guardian will vanish before reappearing, fully healed like they were never stabbed. They will recognize that the player is not to be trusted. However, since their survival is mutual, they will not completely leave the player, but will certainly be cold and distant.

They will, of course, remind the player that the only reason they haven’t turned into a Mind Flayer is thanks to them. With that, the player has to leave after proving to Lae’zel that they did try to kill the guardian but were unable to do so.

Are There Any Rewards For Betraying Your Guardian?

The short answer is no, there is absolutely no reward or reason to betray your guardian when it comes to this situation. Firstly, the player is not even able to kill the Guardian, so while they can try to kill them, they will fail and the guardian will return just fine. However, they will simply start to dislike the player and lose trust. They will still act as the player’s guardian because they recognize that they need each other for now, but the relationship will be cold and distant.

Meanwhile, if the player spares the guardian, their relationship will not be hurt. To add to that, since the player is unable to kill the guardian anyway, whether they try to or not, the Crèche will still turn hostile. Lae’zel will be understanding at the end of the day even if the guardian isn’t harmed, so the player shouldn’t have to worry about losing her for disobeying her Queen.

Escaping the Crèche Y’llek

After not being able to complete Vlaakith’s request, the player needs to exit the Crèche Y’llek as everyone there will have turned hostile on them. Lae’zel struggles with her faith in Vlaakith but still wants to believe she has her best interest in mind and that it is all just a test.

Before intending to leave, the player might want to grab the Blood of Lathander first, which is in close proximity to their location. This is especially true as reentering the Crèche and getting it might be harder in the future.

After that, the player has the option to fight their way through the Crèche, which is definitely not recommended, as the player will likely be outnumbered. The better option that the player can choose is to simply teleport out of this area to a safe waypoint.
